Coimbatore : The reprehensible notice by a educational institution in Coimbatore inviting applications from 'only christians' has raised the eye brows of many including the educational Minister.
Nirmala Matha Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Kuniamuthur, here landed in trouble after they posted a notice in their school premise inviting LKG application only for christian students. The photo of the poster got widely circulated in social media and earned nothing but 'disgust' from netizens.
As several netizens tagged the education Minister and demanded action against the school for their act, the education minister K.A.Sengottaiyan ordered an enquiry immediately.
Following this Chief education officer, Coimbatore, Ayyannan conducted an enquiry at the school on Saturday.
After the enquiry the CEO spoke to the press "The school has rendered an apology in this regard. It seems the school is experiencing religious pressure and to avoid that they had put up a notice which said application for christian students only for 2nd March. According to the school management this was done so that the students from, other religions can come on other days and get application forms. Now, the issue is solved and the school agreed not to put up such notice in the future".
The CEO further mentioned that he had looked into the records of the last three years and there was no such religious discrimination in the school and that they had admitted students from all religions.
Speaking on this issue, Suna, head mistress of the school said, " When people come in huge numbers to collect applications it becomes really crowded. The school is also a center for plus two public exams. So in order to avoid the rush we put up the notice. Now, that the issue has become sensitive we have removed the notice. Students from all religions study in our school. More explanations have been given to the CEO".
